CHIP SEAL
Chip seal paving, also known as tar and chip, is a cost-effective method of paving that combines asphalt and aggregate to create a textured, durable surface. The process begins with a layer of hot liquid asphalt being sprayed onto a prepared base. Immediately after, a layer of small stones or chips is spread over the asphalt and then pressed in using a heavy roller to embed the chips firmly into the surface. Once completed, chip seal provides excellent traction and a rustic appearance, making it popular for rural roads, driveways, and private lanes. It’s a great alternative to traditional asphalt paving because it offers good durability with lower costs, and it helps to protect underlying pavement from water penetration and weather damage. Regular maintenance can keep chip seal surfaces performing well for years.
